Environmentally Friendly

You cannot underestimate the power of social conscience - look what happened to Nike after the news broke of the sweatshops in China. Willow Tyres has a strong social conscience and this is how we work with the environment.

Extracting the maximum safe life from a tyre makes the best use of the valuable resources it is made up of: rubber, steel, oil, etc.  Half a million tonnes of tyres reach the end of their first life as tyres and there are various options for treating these, including:
Retreading:  If the carcass is in reasonably good condition car tyres can be retreaded once.
Recycling:  Tyres can be crumbed and granulated for a number of
applications including carpet underlay, children's playgrounds, etc.
Landfill engineering:  The use of tyres for landfill engineering, as leachate drainage layers, is an accepted beneficial application for used tyres.
Energy recovery: There are two main applications, use for electricity
generation and perhaps more importantly use as a fuel in cement kilns.  This is an improvement on the fuel it displaces - coal - and adds to the quality of cement produced.  It possibly represents the best practicable environmental option for end of life tyres.

Dumped tyres
Don't let this happen!

All tyre manufacturers accept that they have a responsibility to dispose of end-of-life tyres in an environmentally sound way.  Michelin has teamed up with Lafarge to supply substantial quantities of tyres for the latter’s cement manufacturing operations, an agreement to which Willow Tyres is fully committed.

If your collection company is not fully licensed then your scrap tyres could end up being dumped in the countryside and will eventually be traced back to you, leaving your company liable for fines or worse penalties.   Please don’t let the audit trail end at your front door…..
